Okay, the two lines outside the 3c-7 is called absolute value, absolute value is the distance of x, or in this case, 3c-7 is from zero. This is why absolute value is never negative; absolute value only asks "how far?", not "in which direction?"
So on that note you do the absolute value first, just like parenthesis. So 3 times 2.8 is 8.4, now you add 7. This equals 15.4
Because the negative is outside the absolute value signs then it doesn't apply when making the absolute value of something positive. so you end up getting
6 - 15.4
Doing the simple subtraction your answer is -9.4
