i dont understand solving absolute value inequalities

ok say you have lx-2l >14
break it up into x-2>14 and x-2>-14
then solve it like you would any other function but keep the sign x>16 and x>-12
then you do your number line...
And wha-lah you got your answer just but it in the brackets or parenthesis...
you know if its included(which means the inequality sign is a greater than equal to or a less than equal to) it gets a bracket [] if it doesnt have an equal to mark then its not included which means it gets parenthesis () and if its infinity negative or positive it always gets a paranthesis
