If I give my brother 5 dollars, then we will have the same amount of money. If instead, he gives me 14 dollars, then I'll have three times as much money as he will have. How much money does my brother currently have (in dollars)?     

 

(Me –   5)  =       (Bro +   5)     —>  multiply by 3  —>    3M – 15  =  3B + 15     

(Me + 14)  =  3 • (Bro – 14)     —>                        —>      M + 14  =  3B – 42
