ab^4  = 48   (1)

ab^2 =   4    (2)

Divide (1) by (2)

b^2  = 12

b =  +/-  sqrt 12

Using (2)

a ( 12)  = 4

a = 1/3

(a,b)  =  (1/3 , sqrt 12) , (1/3, -sqrt 12)

The solution is (a,b) = (2,8).
