First, we get the (1/3)-root of both sides of the equation, to get x = the (1/3)-root of 6. Getting the (1/3)-root is equivalent to cubing something (since 1/3^-1 = 3), so therefore x = 6^3. When you solve 6^3, you get 216, so x must equal 216.
