Are you foiling if so

FOIL

First
Outside
Inside
Last

Example
(5x+3)(4x-9)
First 5x times 4x which is 29x squared
Outside 5x times -9 which is -45x
Inside 3 times 4 x which is 12x
Last 3 times -9 which is -27

You would then simplify and get 29x squared -33x-27
