Let a and b be the solutions of the equation 2x^2+6x-14=x^2-8x+2. What is the value of (2a-3)(4b-6)?

Rearrange as

x^2 + 14x - 16  = 0

Sum of roots  =  a + b =  -14

Product of roots  = ab  =  -16

(2a - 3) ( 4b - 6)  =

12ab - 12a - 12b + 18 =

12ab -12 (a + b) + 18 =

12 (-16) - 12 (-14) + 18 =

-192 + 168 + 18  =

-6
