Use substitution to find the values of "a" and "b":

 

a = 30   and   b= 14

 

30^2  -  14^2 =704    and    30  +  14 =44

The first step to solving it:

 

\(a^2+b^2=1936\)

So we get:

\(a^2-b^2=704\)

\(a^2+b^2=1936\)

Now we can eliminate a or b :)
