sqrt both sides                    +(2x – 7)  =  +5     

 

four possibilities                  +(2x – 7)  =  +5     —>     x  =  +6     

                                            +(2x – 7)  =  –5     —>     x  =  +1     

                                            –(2x – 7)  =  +5     —>     x  =  –6     

                                            –(2x – 7)  =  –5     —>     x  =  –1
