Consider the system of equations
        5x + y = 31

3x + 4y = -37

Take your expression for y from part (a), and substitute it into the second equation. Solve for x and y.

Enter your answer as the ordered pair(x,y)

5x + y = 31

y = 31 - 5x

3x + 4y = -37

3x + 4(31 - 5x) = -37

Solve for x and then you can get y. :))

5x + y = 31    so   y = 31 - 5x      sub this into the second equation for 'y

3x  +4( 31-5x) = - 37

- 17x + 124 = - 37

- 17x = -161

x= 9.47     Use this value of 'x' in either of the equations to calculate the value of 'y'
