start with the right or left side of the equation to simplify the question I'm starting with the right: 2(x-7) = 2x - 2*7
then the left: 2x+4-3x = -x+4
that means that: -x+4 = 2x-14
add "+x" to both sides of the equation to get the "-x" away from the left side. ("+x-x+4 = 4" and "2x-14+x = 3x-14").
do the same with "-14" and you will get "18 = 3x".
use division to get a "clean" x. 18/3 = (3x)/3
the final answer is x = 6.
