when solving: x^2 - x, wouldn't the whole thing cancel out?
That does NOT 'cancel out' ....can yo give mor information?

I assume you mean x^2-x=0
\(x^2-x=0\)Divide by x
\(x-1=0\)
\(x = 1\)
