An aquarium tank is 1/6 full of water. When 2 gallons of water are added, the tank becomes 5/12 full. What is the total capacity of the aquarium tank, in gallons?
Let the capacity = C (in gallons)
So
(1/6)C + 2 = (5/12)C
(2/12)C + 2 =(5/12)C
2 = (5/12 -2/12) C
2 = ( 3/12) C
C = 2 ( 12/3) = 24 / 3 = 8 (gallons)
