   What is the value of b in this ordered pair?     

 

                                                                        a • b⁴  =  48     (eq 1)     

                                                                        a • b³  =  24     (eq 2)     

   divide both sides of (eq 1)     

   by both sides of (eq 2) to obtain                         b   =  2       (by the way a = 3)
