An equation of one line is y=7/8x+1. What is the slope of the second line?

Find the equation of the second line if it passes through the point (14,-10).

Hint: the slopes of the two lines are reciprocals.

The slope of the given line =  7/8

A perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope.....so.....the line we want to generate has a slope of  -8/7   and we have

y - (-10)  =  [ -8/7 ]] ( x - 14)

y + 10   = [-8/7]x  + 112/ 7

y  =  [ -(8/7)]x + 112/7  - 10

y = [ (-8/7)]x + 112/7 - 70/7

y = [ (-8/7)]x + 42/7

y = [ (-8/7)]x + 6

cool cool cool
