An aquarium tank is 1/6 full of water. When 2 gallons of water are added, the tank becomes 1/3 full. What is the total capacity of the aquarium tank, in gallons?

1/3 full is the same as 2/6 full.  Since the tank was already 1/6 full, 2 gallons added another 1/6 to the tank.

Since 2 gallons is equivalent to 1/6 of a tank, then the tank holds (6 • 2 gallons)  =  12 gallons for a full tank.
