I assume that we have :

(1/4)x  - [7 + 2x}   simplify

(1/4)x  - 7  - 2x          combine like terms

(1/4)x  -2x  - 7            [  2x  =  (8/4)x ]

(1/4)x - (8/4)x  - 7  =

-(7/4)x   - 7

...or maybe it is this:

(7+2x)   - 1/4x                   1/4 x less than the sum

7 +2x - 1/4x

7 + 1 3/4 x

or maybe you meant

1/4x < (7+2x)   Subtract 2x from both sides

-3 3/4 x <7        Divide both sides by - 3 3/4 (NOTE: this will REVERSE the < sign to > )

x > 7 / (3  3/4)

x > 28/15

x> 1  13/15
