in y=ax^2+c how does 'a' effect the graph

"a"  affects the width  and orientation of the graph

 

If its absolute value   > 0  but  < 1  the graph is "wider" than the graph of x^2

 

If its absolute value  > 1 the graph is "narrower" than the graph of x^2

 

Also  if "a" is negative the graph is concave down......if positive, it is concave up
