An aquarium contains water. When a rock is submerged, the water level rises .5 inches. Find the volume of the rock.

The rock displaces 1/2 inch of water in the aquarium, but depending upon the shape and volume of the aquarium, the water displaced by the rock could be different.  But you could take the rock out and figure out what volume of water you had to pour into the aquarium to raise the level by 1/2 inch at the same point in the aquarium, and that would be the correct answer.
