Hello, everyone. This is DragonSlayer554, or DS, with another math question. I need help because I don't know where to start the problem. Please help. The math question is right below. Please help.

The perimeter for rectangular picture frames with side lengths of 2and 3is given by = 4w+6w. Make an input-output table that shows the perimeter when w = 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Then, determine the range of the function from the values in the table.

Please help. Thanks. You will recieve points too. Thanks.

This question is using rectangles to represent the domain and range of a function. In this case, the perimeter is the function we are interested in and we have to plug in values for w to find the range of the function. It may be easier to think of it in terms of {} since the table form has a lot going on.

We have the perimeter equation, P = 4w + 6w. So, all we have to do is calculate the perimeter as w increases by 1 each time from a value of 1 to 5.

Value of W 4w 6w 4w + 6w
1 4 6 10
2 8 12 20
3 12 18 30
4 16 24 40
5 20 30 50

The range is the largest value minus the smallest value --> 50 - 10 = 40.

AzizHusain, I don't get the part which you say that the range is the largest value minus the smallest value --> 50 - 10 = 40.

May you please explain that a little further please?

The range is a math term that basically states that you take the highest number you get and subtract it from the lowest number. It is often asked for along with mean, median, and mode, and is used a lot in statistics as well. For example, if you have a set of numbers {1,3,5}, the range will be 5 -1. In this case, you are already given the numbers so no calculations are necessary. The mean would be 3, median 3 as well, etc.

Oh, So in every problem, the number equals 10, 20, 30 40 and 50. I now get it. Thanks. AzizHusain, can you tell me what is the formula for the range of functions?

Oh, in this case, you obtained values by calculating the perimeter as the variable, w, varied. You would have different numbers in different questions and they could be 500,499, 100 or just 1, 1, 3.

The general formula for the range is always: highest value - lowest value.

Suppose, there was w = 6, then the range would change since w = 5 would not produce the highest value anymore.

Thank you! I never knew that there was a formula for the functions! Thank you, thank you, thank you, very much! I really needed that. Thanks!

Wait...I made a critical mistake...

It asked for the range of the function and not just range, so the range of the function would be the values of 4w + 6w so {10,20,30,40,50}.
