An object travels 100 feet north,

turns left at heading 315 and travels

for 50 feet, turns right at heading 45

and travels 50 feet, turns right at

180 for 170 feet and stops. The

total trip takes 5 minutes. What is

the speed of the object in feet per

minute?

The angle isn't the problem, the main thing is how far the object travels.

Total distance of the object travels

= 100 + 50 + 50 + 170

= 370 ft

Speed of the object

\(=\dfrac{370ft}{5min}\\ = 74 ft/min\)

I agree with Max, since you asked for SPEED.   If you had asked for VELOCITY, (which is a vector), all of those angles WOULD matter !
