An ocean liner leaves Port Angeles and heads in the direction N 50° W. The boat travels 35 miles and reaches Easter Island. Later, the liner sails in the direction N 5° E for 41 miles, reaching Aruba.

How far apart are Port Angeles and Aruba? Give your answer to the nearest mile.

If the ocean liner wishes to return to Port Angeles from Aruba, what should be his bearing from Aruba? Give your answer accurate to 1 decimal place.

I find that a pic always helps.....here it is......

Port Angeles is at B, Easter Island at A and Aruba at C.....and the distance between B and C = about 67 miles

Aruba is located at about (-23.24, 63.34)

So, using trig, this angle =

tan-1(63.34/-23.34) = about -69.85°

So, the heading from Aruba to Port Angeles  = S[90-69.85]°E = about S20.2°E
