5x-5y=10   divide through by 5 → x - y  =  2 ..add y to both sides → x = 2 + y  (2) 

Sub (2) into (1)

3(2 + y) - 2y  = 2

6 + 3y - 2y  = 2

6 + y  = 2    subtract 6 from both sides

y = -4

And using  (2),   x = 2 + y →  2 + (-4) →  -2
