3/5 of Alan’s money was 4/5 of Barry’s money. If Barry gave Alan \(30,\ then\ {\color{blue}Alan}\ would\ have\) 100 more than the amount Barry had left. How much did Barry have at first?

Hello Guest!

\(\dfrac{3a}{5}=\dfrac{4b}{5}\\ b-30+100=a+30\\ \)

\(b=\dfrac{3a}{4}\ |\ deploy\\ \dfrac{3a}{4}-30+100=a+30\ |\ -\frac{3a}{4}-30\\ -30+100-30=\dfrac{a}{4}\)

\(a=160\)

\(b=\dfrac{3a}{4}\)

\(b=120\)

Barry initially has 120.
