The area of a triangle is 124 square units. What would it new area be if its base was half as long, and its height was three times as long?

Since the height of the triangle is increasing by a factor of 3 and the base is decreasing by a facor of 2, therefore the ratio of increase in area would be: 3/2 =1.5. So the area of the triangle would increase by the same ratio of 1.5:

124 x 1.5 =186 square units.
