I am getting 36 inches of new sand. You have to convert the inches into yards by making it a fraction and then multiplying it by the dimensions of the sandbox. So, 2/36 x 18 x 36 = 36 cu yards of sand.

(2/12) / 3=0.05556 yards of sand to be added.

18 x 36 x 0.055556=36 cubic yards of sand needed.
