The area of a triangle is 124 square units? What would it new area be if its base was half as long and it height was three times as long?

We have :

(1/2)(b)(h) =   124

Now....half the base and treble the height

(1/2)(b/2)(3h)  =

(1/2)(3/2)(b)(h)

So....the ratio of the area of the "new" triangle to the "old"  =

[(1/2)(3/2)(b)(h)] / [(1/2)(b)(h)]  = 3/2

So, the area of the "new" triangle  =   .....(3/2)  * 124  =  186 units^2

(1/2)b*h = 124  so b*h = 248 square units

New area = (1/2)*(b/2)*3h → (3/4)b*h → (3/4)*248 → 186 square units
