i am doing the arithmetic sequences, if i have .25 as my first term and .5 as my second term , what is the number that gets me from .25 to .5 ?

.5 - .25=.25 That's the difference from 1st. term to 2nd.term. Because .25 + .25=.5, which is your second term.

We can solve like this

 

a2  = a1 + d(n - 1)   where a2 is the second term, a1 is the first term and n is the nth term [2 in this case]  and d is what we're looking for [ the common difference]

 

So we have

 

.5 = .25 + d(2 -1)

 

.5  = .25 + d      subtract .25 from each side

 

.25 = d  and this is the common difference....or.....the number that gets you from the first term to the second...... [ and from the second term to the third, etc.]
