As a sales person, your commission is directly proportional to the dollar amount of sales you make. If your sales are $800, your commission is $112. How much commission would you earn if you had $1,400 in sales?

I'm very confused! Any help is much appreciated :)

If you sale by  $800  your commission is $112.

make it fraction .

\(\frac{800}{112}\)

now if you sale by 1400$ how much is the commission

again make this as fraction too

\(\frac{1400}{x}\)

equal the two fractions and solve for x

\(\frac{800}{112} = \frac{1400}{x}\)

\(x = \frac{112*1400}{800}\)

\(x = 196\)

so the commission is 196$

is that helps ?

112/800=.14 X 100=14% comm.earned on sales

14% X 1,400=$196 comm. earned on $1,400 sales.
