We can break this up into 4 areas
If we draw a horizontal lne at y = 2, we have two triangles at the top.....each with a base of 4 and a height of 3
So...their total areas = 4 * 3 = 12 units^2
Next.....if we draw another horizontal line at y = -1....we will have a rectangle with a width of 8 and a height of 3......so its area is 8 * 3 = 24 units^2
Finally...we have a triangle at the bottom with a width (base) of 8 and a height of 2.....so its area is
(1/2) * 8 * 2 = 8 units^2
So....the total area is
[ 12 + 24 + 8 ] = 44 units^2
