−1≤x≤2. f(x)=x^2+6

The average rate  of change  =   [f(b) - f(a)] / [b - a ]     where a = -1   and b= 2

f(2)  = 2^2 + 6  = 10

f(-1)  = (-1)^2 + 6  = 7   so

[10  - 7]  / [2 - (-1)]  =   3 / 3    = 1
