Ball bearings are manufactured with diameters that are normally distributed with mean 1cm and standard deviation 0.05cm. Assume that 1000 ball bearings are manufactured, what is the expected number of ball bearings whose diameter is at least 1.1cm?

Almost anon,

5% would be more than 2 standard deviations AWAY from the mean.

Only 2.5% would be more than 2 standard deviations ABOVE the mean

so the answer is 2.5% of 1000

Just taking a guess at it.

0.1 cm is two standard deviations from the mean. Two standard deviations includes 95% of the samples, therefore 5% of the samples with be expected to be larger than this.
