ok of the two expressions here which comes out as negative and which comes out positive:

 

 

(5 - (sqrt -59) ) / 6

 

(5+ (sqrt -59) ) / 6

 

 

And then are these supposed to work when entered in the calculator?   :

 

+ sqrt ( (5+ (sqrt -59) ) / 6 )

 

and 

 

- sqrt ( (5+ (sqrt -59) ) / 6 )

(5+ sqrt (-59) ) / 6

 

The concept of "positive" and/or "negative" − in real number terms −  has no meaning here, because both of these will be complex solutions......

Thanks that's what I needed to know. I said "negative" but really just refered to i.
