Solve using linear equations. As the student council treasurer, you prepare the budget for your class rafting trip. Each large raft costs $100 to rent, and each small raft costs $40 to rent. You have $1600 to spend. If you rent 12 large rafts, write and solve a linear equation to find the number of small rafts you can rent. Please give me steps, I'm seriously confused.

Let the number of small rafts be r, so we have:

(12 X $100) + 40r=$1,600

40r=1600 - 1200

40r=400 divide both sides by 40,

r=400/40

r=10- number of small rafts that you need to rent.
