I don't understand how my professor got the answer. how did he simplify from the second to last y' answer to the last answer... please give detailed explanation

To go from the third last line to the second last line is just dividing both sides by the same thing.

Have I misunderstood your question?

I tried dividing but I dont know if I am simplifiying wrong or what. Could you write it out for me? maybe I can see what I am doing wrong? Thank you Melody
