Suppose a wheel travels in a straight line. This wheel has a diameter of 35 cm and is rotating at 20 revolutions per minute. It's given that the angular velocity of the wheel is 2π / 3. To the nearest centimetre, how far will it travel in 50 s?

 

Looking at the answers (#10.b) they multiplied the rate of revolutions per minute with 35 cm and π. Why?

Note  that  20 revs / min  =   20 * (35/2) * 2pi  = 20 * 35 pi  =  700 pi  cm / min

 

So....in  50 s....it travels    700 pi * (5/6)   ≈  1832.6 cm ≈  1833 cm
