If a rock is thrown upward on the planet mars with the velocity of 10 m/s its height in meters t seconds later is given by y = 10t - 1.86t^2. Find the average velocity over the given time intervals.
a) [1,3]
b) [1,4]
c)[2.5,3.5]
If you could explain the answer and how you went about getting it that would be really helpful
Plug '1' into the equation to get the height at t = 1
Plug '3' into the equation to get the height at t = 3
this is an interval of two seconds
then (height3 - height1 ) / 2 = average velocity over the interval from 1 to 3 sec
the others are similar ....
At t= 1 height = 10 - 1.86 = 8.14 m
at t= 3 height = 30- 16.74 = 13.26
(13.26 - 8.14)/2 = 2.56 m / s ( I think you performed height 1 - height 3 ) / 2
