The median is a type of average, there are three types of averages; mean, median, and mode. The average you might be used to may be the mean, where you find the sum of a certain number of quantities and dividing that sum by the how many numbers you added together, whereas the median is the middle number or the central tendency, where you have certain numbers in numerical order and finding the number that is in the middle
