Chanelle has 3 quarters and 12 dimes. How many quarters should be added so that the ratio of quarters to dimes is 1:2?

The ratio of quarters to dimes right now is 3:12

If we look at this like a fraction, it's 3/12, but we want to get it to 1/2.

1/2 = 6/12, which means there needs to be 3 more quarters in order for the ratio to be 6:12, or 1:2.
