A balloon has a volume of 1.5 liter and a pressure of 1.7 atm. If the temperature is 24 oC, how many moles of gas does the balloon contain?

PV = nRT

Where n is the number of moles of the number of moles and R is a constant called the universal gas constant and is equal to approximately 0.0821 L-atm / mole-K.

 

1.7 * 1.5 = n (.0821) (24+273.15)

n =  (1.7 *1.5) / ((.0821 * (24+273.15))

   = 2.55/24.396

n= .10452  moles
