The famous German composer, Johann Sebastian Bach, had 20 children from 2 wives. Unfortunately most of them died in their childhood. The question is this:

1- What is the probability that 12 were girls and 8 boys.

2- What is the probability that 6 were boys and 14 girls.

Thank you for help.

1.  12 girls - 8 boys  =

We can choose   any 12 of the 20  to be girls  ....so we have ...

C(20, 12) * .5^20   ≈ .12   ≈  12%

2.  6 boys - 14 girls

We can choose  any 14 of the 20 to be girls...so we have

C(20, 14) * .5^20  ≈  .0369  ≈   3.7%
