The side of a square is 20 cm long. What is the circumference of the circle when... a. The circle is inscribed within the square? b. The square is inscribed within the circle?

(rounding to nearest hundreth)

When the circle is inside the square:

r = 10

C = pi(r)2

C = 10*2*pi

C = 20*pi or 62.83

When the square is inside the circle:

tanX = (10/10)

X = 45 degrees

sin45 = 10/r

r = 10/sin45

r = 14.14

C = pi(r)2

C = pi*14.14*2

C = 28.28*pi or 88.86

 

Feel free to get a second opinion, and double-check my math because I might be wrong, but there you go.
