A group of 12 people are going out to dinner and intend on taking 3 cars with 4 people in each. If they distribute themselves randomly among the cars, what is the probability of Rachel and Tim being in the same car?
My textbook says the answer is 1/11. I don't understand how this question should be answered.
I'm NOT sure either BUT if you put Rachel in ANY car there are 11 people left who COULD be in the car with her and ONE of them is Tim for a 1/11 chance he will be in the same car.....but I do not know if this is correct.
