My school's math club has 6 boys and 8 girls. I need to select a team to send to the state math competition. We want 6 people on the team. In how many ways can I select the team without restrictions?

6 + 8 = 14

14 c 6 = 3003 ways       = 14!/ (6! 8!)

EP has assumed that you only care about gender.

I'd say it is 14C6     since I assume every member is an individual.

Thanx , Melody.....I assumed it DIDN'T care about gender as  'without restrictions' was part of the Q ...

    Have a good one !

That depends how you look at it.

You assumed that all the boys are 'identical' and choosing one is the same as choosing a different one,

Same with the girls.

So you have not treated the children as individuals, you have only cared about their gender.
