A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter. A centimeter is one-hundredth of a meter, and a kilometer is 1000 meters. An X-ray can have a wavelength of 0.000000085 meter. Express this wavelength in scientific notation. Then decide which unit is most appropriate for measuring the wavelength of an X-ray. Use pencil and paper. Explain your reasoning.

0.000000085=8.5 X 10^-8 meters=85 nanometers. The wavelrngths of X-rays and Gamma rays are more appropriately measured in nanometers because they are very, very small compared, say, to Radio waves which can be in hundred of meters, or even Kilometers.
