3x - 6y  = 12 + 2x  - 4y      rearrange as

 

x - 2y  =  12

 

y intercept,  let   x  = 0, so y = -6

 

x intercept, let y  =0 , so x  =12

 

Distance between intercepts =  sqrt [ (-6)^2 + 12^2 ]  =   sqrt (180)  =  sqrt (16 *10) =  4sqrt (10)
