Find the distance between the x-intercept and the y-intercept of the graph of the equation 3x - 6y = 18.

y int  =   3(0) - 6y = 18   ⇒     y = -3

x int   =   3x - 6(0) = 18  ⇒     x = 6

 

We can form a right triangle with legs of 3 and  6

 

The distance between  the two intercepts  is the hypotenuse = sqrt [6^2 + 3^2]  = sqrt (45)  =3 sqrt (5)
