A triangular region is bounded by the two coordinate axes and the line given by the equation 2x + y = 8 . What is the area of the region, in square units?

x-axis and y-axis are two sides of the triangle.

So, you should substitute x=0 and y=0 in 2x+y=8

substituting x=0 gives you y=8, (height of triangle) substituting y=0 gives us x=4 (base of triangle)

Area=(1/2)(8)(4)=16
