Step 1:  find the equation of the line that passes through the points (-1,7) and (3,-12):

   1)  Find the slope of the line:

           slope  =  (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)  =  (-12 - 7) / (3 - -1)  =  -19 / 4

   2)  Use the point-slope form to find the equation:

           y - y1 =  m(x - x)     --->     y - 7  =  -19/4(x - -1)

                                                     y - 7  =  -19/4(x + 1)

                                                          y  =  -19/4x -19/4 + 7

                                                          y  =  -19/4x + 9/4

Step 2:  Replace the x-value in that equation with -6 and solve:

   y  =  -19/4(-6) + 9/4

   y  =  30.75
