A fountain is in the shape of a right triangle. The area of the fountain is 12 square meters. One leg of the triangle measures one and a half times the length of the other leg. What are the lengths of all three sides of the fountain?

I got a=5, b=4.8, and c=7

Area of a right triangle =  1/2 x leg1 x leg2

leg1 = 1.5 leg2  (given)

Area = 12 m^2 (given)

12 = 1/2  (1.5 leg2) (leg2)

24 = 1.5 (leg2)^2

16 = (leg2)^2

4m = leg2                 then leg1 = 1.5 leg2 = 6m

Use pythag theorom to find hypotenuse

4^2 + 6^2 = hyp^2

hyp = 7.211 m
